Cangas de OnÃs
There are numerous places to stay â even in summer there should be space. The tourist office has a full list. Most are great value off-season. Among them are numerous casas rurales; check www.toprural.com.
â¬â¬â¬ Parador de Cangas de OnÃs, Villanueva s/n, T985 849 402, www.parador.es. Set in an old Benedictine monastery 3 km north of Cangas, this new parador offers excellent comfort and good views. Most of the rooms are in a modern annexe; those in the original building are less comfortable but more atmospheric.
â¬â¬â¬-â¬â¬ Hotel Nochendi, C Constantino González 4, T985 849 513, www.hotelnochendi.com. Stylish and comfortable, this small hotel has staff who appreciate your presence, and a good location on the river. It gets the gold medal for centre-of-town choices.
â¬â¬ Hotel Imperión/Puente Romano, C Puente Romano s/n, T985 849 339, www.hotelimperion.com. An authentically heavily decorated 19th-century mansion across the Sella, with courteous management and comfortable, if worn, heated rooms.
â¬â¬ Hotel La Plaza, C La Plaza 7, T985 848 308. Simple and cheery rooms with bathroom. The best have a balcony and look out towards the mountains.
â¬â¬ Hotel Los Lagos, Jardines de Ayunta-miento 3, T985 849 277, www.arceahoteles.com. Right on the main square, offering fair prices, upbeat and professional staff, and reasonable rooms that could do with a facelift. Comfortable beds and decent facilities including a sunny café downstairs, and a free internet terminal. Wi-Fi is extra.
⬠Pensión Reconquista, Av Covadonga 6, T985 848 275. Modern, 6th-floor rooms with balconies overlooking the town, and that rarest of beasts, a good shower. Run out of the bar on the corner. An excellent option.
