"Where are you off to?" Juniper sits up and peers at me over the top of the sofa.

"I'm going to go track down Brandon and apologize for the other day," I say, pulling on my coat.

"Really? Does Salem know you're going?" Juniper eyes me. "I mean, after that little pissing contest he put on downstairs, I'd think you'd leave well enough alone."

"Why would I do that? Salem was rude, and Brandon has been nothing but nice. Besides, Salem doesn't own me," I snip.

Juniper puts her hands up in front of her. "Hey, I wasn't saying I agree with him. Just wondering if going to see Brandon is a smart move. You said he asked you out. Do you think going to see him would give him the idea you're interested in him?"

I slip my keys in my purse and ponder Juniper's question, then shake my head. "I don't think so. I think Salem made it clear that he and I are together." I sigh. "I just feel bad for how things went down. Even though I'm not interested in Brandon beyond being friends, I do believe he's owed an apology."

"In that case, good luck." Juniper plops back on the sofa then adds, "Because if your scary, alpha biker boyfriend catches wind of you so much as breathing the same air as another man, he'll probably lose his shit." She peeks back over the edge at me. "He's hot as all get out, but scary as hell."

I roll my eyes. "It'll be fine. Besides, it's not like he'll find out. And if he does," I shrug, "so what."

Juniper gets a wicked gleam in her eyes and smirks. "Or maybe you want to piss your man off so he can punish you again."

"Oh, shut up, you wench." I laugh. "I knew I never should have told you what he did to me when he dragged me up here after he was done pissing on me in front of Brandon."

"Whatever," Juniper tosses back. "We're best friends, and best friends are supposed to tell each other all the juicy deets. It would be a crime against the best friend's law to keep such details from me."

"Yeah, yeah." I wave over my shoulder on my way out the door.
