"Do you come here often?"

Taylor looked up as Tanya approached and slid into the seat across from him in the booth.

He nodded. "I do but not for lunch, though. Their breakfast is to die for, and that's why I usually come. That and the manager is a great guy."

"So, you’re not a fan of the lunch manager?" she asked.

"I don't know—never met him.” He shrugged. “If he's anything like the breakfast manager, though, I'm sure we'll get along famously."

A waitress came over to them with a welcoming smile and a tablet in hand. "Can I take your orders?"

"Sure." He checked the menu quickly. "I'll have this Piadina Arrotolata con Pollo—although I know for a fact that I haven’t pronounced that right—with the side of fries and a beer if you don't mind."

"And I'll have the Linguine Mare Chiaro, with the same beer he ordered," Tanya said quickly without even having to check the menu.

"Coming right up," the waitress replied, noted their orders, and returned to the bar to get their drinks.

Taylor studied the woman across from him, who smiled cheekily. "I might have come here once or twice in the past, although I do have to say I have a preference for their lunch menu."

He chuckled and shrugged. "Well, given how good their breakfast is, I wouldn't hold liking the lunch against anyone."

The waitress returned with their beers, left them on the table, and seemed to sense that they needed to talk and beat a hasty retreat.

"So, why don't you go ahead and talk about this not urgent issue you wanted to discuss," Taylor prompted. "I don't want to press you on your personal problems, and I'll be damned before I get in the middle of family problems that aren't my own. Hell, I steered clear of my own family's problems."

"Now why don't I have any difficulty believing that?" Tanya asked and sipped her beer.

"Because you've met me, that's why," he said. "So, what are you doing in Vegas? Not that you're not allowed to make a trip here or anything. Folks love them some games of chance, after all, even if it is smack-dab right in the middle of the desert."

"Well, I'm not one for gambling anyway," she responded. "I'm actually looking for a job."

He opened his mouth to reply but was cut short when their food arrived. It did smell fantastic, although he knew he had to pay attention to something else first.

"Last I heard, you already had a job," he said once the waitress retreated again. "You know, hunting things and killing them dead. The kind of stuff we were doing when we met."

"I'm not sure if you've heard, but word on the grapevine today is that people in our particular line of work have begun to drop like flies," she explained. "I'm not sure I'm really at liberty to discuss it, but the short and nasty is that I'm done with Banks' task force and I'm looking for gainful employment. I heard you were hiring."

"How?"

"Oh, you know…the grapevine.
