Chapter 28 – Logan

“What time is Evan due back?” Logan set his cutlery on the plate.

Megan glanced up at the clock.

“Maybe another hour if traffic is good?” She guessed. “Why? Problem?”

“Not really, no.” Logan shook his head. “I just wanted to pop down to town to pick up a few things, but I’d rather not leave Summer here without Evan or me being here.”

“I’ll be fine.” Summer protested. “Megan is here with me.”

“Sweetheart, as much as Megan is good company for you, she isn’t a Guardian, and my bosses would expect one of us to stay with you at all times.” Logan pointed out. “It’s not a problem. I can always go later, after they get back.”

“What if I came with you?” Summer suggested. “I need to get a few things as well. I didn’t have a chance to get any toothpaste for Freya. She doesn’t like adult toothpaste very much.”

“Why don’t you two go straight out after breakfast? Freya and I will stay here and watch some children’s TV.” Megan suggested. “We liked watching the Disney channel yesterday.”

“Sounds good to me.” Logan nodded.

“Ok, then.” Summer jumped up. “I’ll load the dishwasher so you and Freya can get settled before we head out.”

Twenty minutes later they were in the car, and Logan was heading into town.

“Which shops did you need to go in?” Summer glanced over as he pulled into a small car park.

“I only need the chemist.” Logan tried not to grin but couldn’t help himself.

“What’s so funny about needing the chemist.” She wondered.

“Nothing funny about it.” Logan felt like a randy teenager. “I just thought if we were going to have a repeat of last night anytime soon, I’d better restock supplies ahead of time. I wouldn’t want to get caught short.”

Summer frowned at him, and Logan could tell she wasn’t on the same wavelength.

“Condoms, Summer.” He explained. “I only had two in my bag, and we put both of them to good use last night.”

“Oh!” She blushed furiously. “Yes, well…! I suppose that would be a good idea.”

Logan was still chuckling as she scrambled out of the car, and when he reached the front of the Range Rover, she was still blushing.

“What else did you need?” He took her hand as they started to walk towards the shops.

“I don’t know.” Summer frowned. “The toothpaste for Freya, and maybe some children’s shampoo if they have some. The sort that doesn’t hurt if it goes in your eyes.”

“No problem.” Logan nodded. “I’m sure they’ll have both.”

They walked a few more steps before Summer suddenly stopped.

He glanced down to see her face full of worry, and automatically looked around for a threat.

“What is it, Summer?” He turned to stand in front of her, blocking any view of her from the main road.

“I’m so sorry, I just realised… I have no money to pay for my things.” She blushed. “Do you… would you mind if a borrowed some money from you? I’ll pay you back as soon as I can.”

Logan released the breath he was holding.
