In every way. He was, as I said, my biggest booster. He also had a particular skill; he was a great cook. Our arrangement when my children were young, I was the everyday cook, he was the weekend and company cook. My daughter, in her teens, noticed the enormous difference between Daddy’s cooking and Mommy’s, and decided that Daddy shouldn’t just be the weekend cook, he should be the everyday cook as well. So for all the years I’ve lived in Washington, D.C. – that’s since 1980 – I’ve not cooked a meal. Since my husband died, my daughter – who is a very good cook; she learned from her father – comes once a month, cooks for me, and fills the freezer with food that I enjoy for the next month.
