When I turned up to run my dream marathon in April 2018, all wet behind the ears – and, well, just wet everywhere – I could never have imagined that the conditions would be the worst in the race’s 122-year history. What about those odds?! It happened at a time when everything else in my life was in absolute chaos and I honestly wondered if the torrential weather was simply a reflection of my inner struggle. I’ve read enough of those ‘you bring your own reality into existence’ spooky voodoo books. And so, at the time of writing in June 2021, I am putting it out into the universe that me and the Boston Marathon are not done.

I’m by no means the only person to have such a strong, unresolved feeling about a specific race – as though it needs to come full circle so that I can move on and close that chapter in my mind. The race becomes symbolic of something bigger than running. It is no longer just about the miles but about everything else we know we will have to endure and overcome to be back on the start line.

It is my goal to return to Hopkinton and make my way along the 26.2 miles via Routes 135, 16 and 30 to the famous yellow and blue finish line on Boylston Street.

Me and the Boston Marathon? We have unfinished business …
