I make it to the human world with hours to waste. I normally don't like spending any more time here than I need to but today I need the reprieve. The text from Exu soured my mood instantly. Iâm hoping I can find a little release before my mark comes up.
The best thing about this realm is the ambiguity humans exude. They are just so instinctively idiotic and far too entertaining to watch their self destructive natural. All because they allow emotions to rule them.
The overhead bell dings alerting the wait staff of my presence as I walk into the tiny diner. Not much is open in this realm when the moon is high but you can always find some hole-in-the-wall eatery catering to the night crowd. I slide onto the high barstool at the main counter. The aroma of overheated coffee and bacon grease clings to every surface of the place. All eyes find me sitting there, knowing even if they can't put their finger on it that there is something different about me. That I am no mere human walking in from a long night of who the fuck knows what.
Humans can't tell what we are, since like most supernaturals, we look mostly human. There is just this special something about our appearances that make us stand out. Be it the slight glow of a Vampire's eyes or the spark of magic that surrounds a Warlock. Or you know, the uneasy energy that follows a Reaper. We are simply different.
Because of the extra attention most Reapers tend to hide in the shadows so no one catches sight of them. I, however, am not that kind of Reaper. I revel in the glances. In the hunger that radiates off their bodies as they take me in. I am not humble enough to deny my appeal to humans. Apparently, from the glimpses Iâve caught from their media I would be considered an ideal form of what they crave. Tall, light hair, and a figure that appeals to most.
And I crave the attention.
I know the power I hold, and power is my most basic need.
âWhat can I getcha, darling?â I slowly bring my eyes to meet her dull brown ones. Instantly heat sparks in her gaze. Making the unattractive color swirl with honey chocolate. My eyes slide over the parts of her body not hidden by the counter. Blonde hair is pulled back into a straight ponytail while leaving two strands free to frame her face. The look is what seems to be a popular look at the time. Pale skin disappears into a tight blue uniform that does little to hide the curves of her chest.
Men or women, they are all the same to me. Most Reapers don't hold a preference. Beauty is beauty no matter what package itâs wrapped in. And this particular package is innocently delicious. A smile curves my mouth and I order a black coffee. Her want is obvious in the extra sway in her hips when she turns to get my order.
