This rule takes much discipline. It requires that conservatives understand what the conservative position is. It also requires that the true conservative inspect every item in any deal to make sure that a compromise has not been imbedded to move the current state away from the conservative position.

On November 29, 2010, Barack Hussein Obama announced that he would implement a pay freeze on all federal government employees for two years. The union leaders staged a show of objection to make the general public feel that they were upset with it. As posted by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, employees in the private sector have experienced a loss in wages in the time period of 2007 to 2011 when Democrats controlled Congress while the pay for government employees increased at a compounded rate of four percent per year. And as stated earlier in this book, government employees are paid substantially more money than their counterparts in the private sector—approximately 30 percent per job.

Obama was trying to present himself as a compromiser who was brokering a compromise between the union leaders and conservatives. The union leaders acted out their part of outrage to help Obama look like he was in the middle. But once again, Obama and the union leaders were deceiving America.

So what did a pay freeze mean for government employees? Nothing. It maintained the current situation for government workers and liberals who press for more government. It kept things at position B. On a net present value basis relative to the pay for employees in the private sector, the freeze actually increased the gap between the pay of government workers and private sector workers because the employees in the private sector had lost income.

The Federal Times of December 6, 2010 pointed out that Obama only froze the cost of living portion of pay raises. The adjustments for service years would continue so the amount saved from a cost of living freeze was actually quite small. But Obama made his announcement sound like all pay increases would be frozen.

Freezing the cost of living portion of pay was a joke. What cost of living increase was there in a recession—especially when pay in the private sector had decreased?

Conservatives should have denounced the pay freeze for government workers as a scam and asked for a pay reduction that would make government employees equal in pay to what is paid for the same jobs in the private sector. Conservatives should have asked for a 30% reduction to pay for government workers. That is position A. Then a compromise would have been some/any pay reductions to government employees rather than a pay freeze on only the cost of living portion of their pay. Instead, Eric Cantor and his cohorts applauded Obama. Cantor was more interested in appearing to be cooperative with the administration than upholding conservative principles. Cantor sold out.

For most of 2010, Obama and Clinton (Hillary) pressed the U.S. Senate to approve the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). It is a treaty between Russia and the USA to decrease the number of warheads of each.
