If he’d known he would be spending several nights at Nadine’s house, Rozar would have come prepared with a change of clothes. His future mate had been generous about providing him with toiletries, a new toothbrush, and plenty of towels, but he now wished he hadn’t been so self-assured by his ability to bring her back to the Hostanna on the very first day he’d met her.

He stood in front of what he thought was a clothing refresher, with a towel wrapped around his waist while he held his sweaty clothes in one hand. With his free hand, he traced the controls on the device, wishing he could read Nadine’s language or at least decipher what the symbols meant. The clothing refreshers he was accustomed to worked in moments, cleaning a garment and making it sparkle like new, but he found this device confusing, particularly since there was a second machine next to the one he was currently trying to figure out. Both looked slightly different.

“Rozar? What are you doing?”

He spun around to face Nadine so quickly that the towel around his waist unfastened and dropped to the floor, leaving him stark naked before her. Unconcerned with his nudity, he stared at her without reaching for the towel. If he wrapped it around his waist, it would only fall off again, as it was much too small for him anyway.

To his surprise, Nadine shut her eyes and covered her face with her hands. “Oh my God, Rozar. You-you’re naked!”

“I am trying to use the clothing refresher,” he explained, curious about her reaction to his nudity. Did she not find him pleasing? He glanced down at himself. He was in formidable shape for a warrior. Did she not like what she saw?

“Clothing refresher? You mean the washing machine?” She peeked through her fingers with one eye, though he noted she was careful not to let her gaze wander any lower than his neck.

“Yes, I would like to clean my clothes. I want to smell nice for you, little human.” Though he’d heard human senses weren’t as heightened as Vaxxlian, he still didn’t want to risk her finding him offensive after he’d worked up a sweat with his training exercises. Especially when he longed to hold her close, kiss her, and caress her soft flesh. His tongue started to vibrate as he imagined doing just that.

She mumbled something in English under her breath and then cleared her throat. “I, uh, appreciate you wanting to smell nice, Rozar. You really do think of everything. Here, let me help. But you’ll have to wear the towel for about an hour and thirty minutes. That’s how long it will take the washer and dryer cycles to clean your outfit.”

“Where should I put my clothing?”

“Open that lid there and toss it in.” She motioned at the machine on the left and he followed her directions, opening the lid and tossing his pants and shirt inside.

“Um, aren’t you going to throw your underwear in with it?” She continued peeking at him with one eye while keeping the rest of her face covered.
