Chapter 8

Ella

I peak back around the door, and I see that Samuel leaves and that Carter is still standing there, so I decide to walk out.

He has a stressed look on his face, and I would too if I had the conversation that he just had. That Samuel looks like one hard guy, and I don’t know how Carter and I are going to get him to have faith in our relationship.

“Is everything okay?” I ask, even though I already know what’s going on.

I just don’t want to let on that I was eavesdropping on his conversation because I know that I shouldn’t have been listening in the first place.

I really feel sorry for him because I know how much pressure he must be under.

“Yes, I’m fine. Let’s head back to the room so that I can change out these clothes and then we can go do something before we go to dinner tonight with the investors,” he says. “I know that you probably want to have some fun after doing nothing but business since we’ve been here.”

“Okay, and you’re right. I’m ready to see what Florida life is all about, especially since I’ve never been here before. I hope that we get a chance to enjoy everything,” I say as I follow behind him.

I know that he doesn’t want to talk about what happened with Samuel, so I don’t push it.

Besides, I think that talking about it would only ruin the mood, and I want to keep him happy.

I know that I’m starting to care about him more than I should, but hopefully the feelings will just fade away because I can’t deal with another hurt in my life right now.

We head through the lobby and Carter hits the button for the fourth floor.

We ride up in silence, and once the elevator dings we head to our room.

After he swipes his room key, he opens the door and allows me to enter first, and I’m impressed.

The room is a huge suite with a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms, which I was glad to see because I didn’t know if I will be comfortable with sleeping in the bed with Carter, even if we are supposed to be dating.

Carter grabs his Versace luggage and heads into the bathroom without saying a word.

I flip on the TV and begin to switch through the channels as I begin to wonder what Carter’s next move is going to be.

I am still in deep thought when Carter exits the bathroom dressed in red polo shorts and a white polo shirt.

He looks very handsome, and I can’t help the twinge that I feel between my legs.

I want him, badly, but I don’t think that he plans for us to cross that line.

Actually, I’m sure of it.

I’m here to make him look good, secure investments, and nothing else.

This is a business trip, not a pleasure trip, so I have to remember to keep those kind of thoughts to myself no matter how hard it is.
