Aurora agreed to ride with Kline to the skating rink after a brief spat over whose vehicle to take, Aurora claiming that her truck was safer since it was higher off the ground.

“Texans and their trucks,” he had commented with a playful eye roll.

“I know you're mostly chauffeured around,” she had countered.

“That doesn't mean I can't drive.” He had huffed.

They were all smiles when they were together. And for having originally dreaded coming to Bandera, Kline couldn't remember the last time he was this happy.

As a comfortable silence settled between them, Aurora reached over to turn the radio on, twisting the dial until Christmas music played out from the speakers. Kline immediately tensed, remembering the day prior when he hadn't been able to force himself to listen to it. He decided not to say anything, but instead quickly changed the station back to country music.

She gave him a sour look in response.

“It's a good song,” he told her.

“I'll give you that.” She nodded. “But once it's over, I'm changing it back to Christmas music.”

He tried to keep the frown from tugging at his lips. “My car, my choice in music.”

Aurora crossed her arms over her chest. “That doesn't hardly seem fair. I had wanted to take my truck, but you refused, so now we have to agree on what music we listen to. Those are the rules of compromise.”

He snorted in amusement at her logic. “And I am in disagreement over the Christmas music.”

“Kline, Christmas is just a few days away. Then it will be a whole eleven months before I'll get to listen to Christmas music again.” She sagged, pouting like a child.

“Didn't you get enough Christmas at the bazaar?” He raised an eyebrow at her.

“There's no such thing as enough Christmas,” she insisted.

“Well, we can agree to disagree on that one,” he mumbled, concentrating on the road.

The song they were listening to ended, and another one began to play. Kline thought the conversation was over, but then he heard Aurora humming a familiar Christmas tune. He glanced over at her, unable to keep a smile off of his face because she was so incredibly stubborn.

When she noticed him looking, she turned to him, opening her mouth and bellowing out the lyrics loud enough to drown out the radio, “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me.”

“Oh please no,” he chuckled.

“A partridge in a pear tree,” she continued. “On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me.”

He turned off the radio since she obviously wasn't going to let him get away with listening to it.

“Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree,” she continued. “On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me.” Aurora paused, waiting for him to finish the lyrics.

“No,” he said in a stern voice, though there was laughter behind it.

“Oh, come on, you know this one.” She prodded him. “Or wait.” Her face lit up with mock shock. “Maybe you don't know this one.
