CHAPTER 13

Damien paused as he shifted nervously in his seat whilst being directly opposite Gwendolyn. He'd been desperate to speak to her since that afternoon but alas, Astrid had prevented him from doing so just so he could talk to Damien. The clock struck seven, so there was still plenty of the evening left for Damien to be able to express what he wanted to say.

At least being sat in the old quiet kitchenette that nobody at Wingdom's Academy used much meant they would finally get some peace to discuss what they needed to without any interruptions. Damien hated that Beatrice stuck around him all day. It was literally her first day enrolled at Wingdom's and she had not stopped following him around like some lonely puppy dog in dire need of attention. It was befuddling. He wasn't used to having a young woman behave like that. At least Gwendolyn always maintained her composure so that even when she was mighty ticked off with the warlock, she still had the self-respect to not make a fool of herself by practically throwing herself at him.

“Tea?” Gwendolyn nudged Damien as she positioned herself next to the kettle.

Judging by the smell, she was cooking up quite the exquisite delight. Wafts of blueberry and soft sweet vanilla overtook Damien's senses, lingering in his nostrils. Gwendolyn gingerly poured the tea, still awaiting Damien to answer, but his mind was placed elsewhere.

“Would you like some tea, Damien?” Gwendolyn asked again since she had gotten no answer from him.

“Oh, yes. Thank you. Sorry. I'm afraid I'm a bit out of sorts. It has been a tiresome day,” Damien lamented.

He had a rather sombre tone about him, but it wasn't wholly depressive. He was more withdrawn and eager to zone out of the whole affair that had emerged in his midst.

“Aren't we all? Did Astrid say anything of interest?” Gwendolyn inquired.

She was being casual but also wanted to know, for it seemed rather spontaneous of the raven to pop up at Wingdom's like he had. He wouldn't have done it for no reason. Astrid is a meticulous creature. A dark horse. There is something he knows regarding Damien, and he won't say a damn word about it to anyone because he is so loyal, a true and trusted companion.

“He did, yes, but it's of no consequence to you. It's just a minor thing honestly,” Damien commented.

Gwendolyn handed him the mug of blueberry and vanilla tea. She'd poured two sky-blue mugs with delicate white daisies painted onto them. The illustrations were cute and brightened up what was an extremely melancholy day.

“Hmm, so what did you want to tell me then? I'm all ears. I'm just shocked that Astrid pulled you aside in such a manner. He's not exactly the type to cause alarm unless there is a reason to be concerned,” Gwendolyn pointed out, which only annoyed Damien as he knew she was right.

“Yes, I suppose so. Anyway, I've wanted to explain this to you for a long time… I do have a desire for you.
