24. She Who Loves To Curse

Initial contact was a mess.

Hailey teleported away from the swing of Joey’s famine blade. The First Fallen Child cast a giant fae beam that nearly blew Joey apart.

He barely used his Dark Dash in time to get away. His undead mini-bosses used their rose teleportation to avoid ‘friendly’ annihilation.

Witches are tricky. Every version that is a monster, person, or freaking mistress of Multiverse Z is a dark manipulator.

Joey knew the epic devil would betray him at the first chance she had. He couldn’t leave his back exposed to the First Fallen Child for long.

Assess the situation. What do I know about Hailey Allen, the Unseelie Primordial, She Who Loves to Curse?

Joey thought over all the information he’d picked up listening to others associated with the primordials. He also thought about mini-stories written inside the powers the system had given him.

Meanwhile, he ran around the room, staying mobile as a storm of dark feathers covered the air. His left hand worked quickly with a set of glyph cubes, casting all of their charges on the entire boss arena.

It was so large he had to run hard around the arena to reinforce the effect, casting multiple glyph cubes, one after the other. His clones and mini-bosses stayed on the lookout for Hailey while also monitoring the epic devil.

Joey’s mind was on overdrive as he compiled his notes: What do I know?

Well, for starters, this version of Hailey is a fragment who didn’t know Harmony was born. Maybe I can use that to my advantage.

I know she’s one of the most wicked of the Champions. Almost as evil as Luca’s mom. She’s huge into faeries, especially the wicked type.

I’m pretty sure a few skills Maylolee and I have are based on her: Essence Predator and the old Anti-Life Destruction Pulse. Both of them talked about a woman similar to Hailey, one who can drain the magic of other mages and can easily destroy … unliving creatures.

Joey cussed with realization. He tried to reach out to all of his undead mini-bosses and warn them.

Too late, the storm of black feathers twisted around each of the undead mini-bosses. Twelve vortexes rose into the air before combining to reform Hailey.

All the mini-bosses were gone.

No bones. No flesh. Not even a splotch of blood.

“Well, that was a delightful meal.” Hailey tapped the tip of a finger talon on her lip. She winked down at Joey. “But I’m always hungry for more, Joey. And we both know you have a vast supply of essence inside of you. And … something else, I sense.”

“I hate it when you flirt with your food, mother.” The First Fallen Child rushed forward with blurring speed, creating a massive sonic boom that thundered back and forth against the arena walls.

Joey conjured a stormy vortex around him to divert the rushing pressure waves. Most of his clones flew off their feet from the backwash, some smashing against the walls and poofing away.

He stabbed the famine blade into the ground and held his place.
