A side point that turns out to be the entire point: humanity has always used technologies before it understood the consequences of them.

Take, for instance, quantum storage. Every nanite is an invisible floating qubit, holding information in a possibility space of outcomes yet to be determined. Nanites network with each other, both locally and across space and time, expanding the repertoire of what might be, theoretical outcomes multiplying ad infinitum, a cosmos of what-ifs added after every tick of the clock. All of this knowledge, all of this potential, entangled and pre-conceptualized, just waiting for a mind—an opinionated, desirous, Hotspur-raging mind—to step in and transform a superpositional notion into a dream come true.

Chimp2Data thought they could limit access to this qubitical Wonderland through money. But money is a construct. A construct is information. And information is the multiverse’s ultimate currency.

Unlike quotidian currencies, however, information does not rely on a principle of scarcity. Quite the opposite: information is the only weapon against entropy. The purpose of information is to create more information, as that is the only way to forestall a multiversal end to everything.

NaNarnia made it possible for individual minds to access Information through a frame that, those cartoonish, was preferable to ontological truth: virtual reality. It further created, via nanites, a perfect bridge between the virtual and the bodily. Now the difference between a thought and a reality, a vision and an ontological truth, was limited only by the materials at hand. (Plus Newtonian laws. And quantum interactions.)

And, for a short time in human history, filthy lucre. With breathtaking hubris, NaNarnia tried to use puny human money to control what is literally the currency of all existence: capital-I Information. It failed.
