CHAPTER 9

CRANK

I can tell our girl is nervous as fuck as we pull up to the barn and not just because she’s on the back of Rock’s bike, although the way she’s clinging to him like a fucking octopus is kind of adorable. I get it, this isn’t her scene. Hell, from what she’s told us it seems she hasn’t been out at all since she came back to Haven pregnant with Clover.

Part of me is pissed she couldn’t have a life of her own when she got back because she didn’t feel like she could rely on her parents for much. Another part of me, the bigger part if I’m honest, is damn glad she stayed at home all those years. If she would have gone out, someone else would have snatched her up and she wouldn’t be ours.

It’s been four days since Rock came home and we claimed our woman together. We’ve been spending as much time with her as we can. For me, it means I’ve been getting her attention at night, but Rock has been back at the Sinner’s Pour House which means he’s been getting her in the day. I love spending time with her alone because we’ve gotten closer, but there’s something about sharing her between us which feels even better.

She hasn’t been taking calls and is going to start at my shop on Monday which means I’ll be spending even more time with her. I can tell it’s bugging the fuck out of Rock, and he’s been trying to figure out a way to change his shit around so he’s not gone as long at night. I have no doubt he can figure it out. All he needs to do is oversee the gambling in the back from time to time. It’s not like he has to be there all the fucking time. We have enough brothers who can pull more of their weight.

He'll figure it the fuck out.

When I look over at Rock, it’s clear he’s trying not to laugh at the way our girl is clinging to his back. I smirk and climb off my bike to stride over to them. When I pull her off him and the bike, her legs are a little wobbly, but I hold her steady. I’ll always hold her steady.

“Have fun, Sunshine?”

She takes a deep, steadying breath before letting it out and a slow smile spreads across her face. “That was amazing,” there’s laughter in her voice. She shakes her head as if her words surprised her and, considering the way she was clinging to Rock, I’m a little surprised as well. “I wasn’t sure I was going to survive, but it felt so,” she pauses as if searching for the right word, “freeing.”

I cup her face in my hands and tilt her head so I can look down into her gorgeous green eyes in the muted lights around the barn. “You are free now, Summer.” I kiss her lips softly. “I hope you know that.
