CREATING PROPHETIC EMPATHY TRIBES

The first step is to create an international prophetic empathy tribe whose mission is to bring forth people’s capacity to be empathic, generous, and loving advocates for environmental, economic, and social justice. The prophetic empathy tribe will have as part of its mission the development of many other prophetic empathy tribes.

We call this “prophetic empathy” because our outreach program explicitly seeks both to affirm people’s deepest needs and to help people understand that those needs cannot be met fully in a society which is based on promoting and justifying selfishness, materialism, looking out for number one, and domination of others. Empathy as practiced in the West is often only validation of the individual; prophetic empathy affirms each individual, challenges the degree to which they have become attached to the values of the competitive marketplace, and supports them to become involved in building the caring society.
