Chapter 19

Alessa

“Um, I think this is going to be a problem,” I said, my voice echoing from inside Vaunn.

“Why do you have to be so puny?” Oberon asked, tapping on the armor.

I was currently inside Vaunn, and what had sounded like a good idea before ran into a bump shortly after we started testing it out. While I could reach most of the armor parts, I was still lacking nearly a dozen centimeters in each direction to say I filled it. If I strained, I could get my head up into the helmet rather than in the neck, but it would be a very uncomfortable trip if I had to do that.

“It’s not my fault!” I shouted and ended up making my own ears ring.

“Alright. Hold on,” Oberon said.

A few minutes must have gone by before he placed a hand on Vaunn. I wasn’t sure what he was doing, but I felt he was examining a status screen. Finally, he chuckled, then removed his hand from Vaunn. I gulped as I hoped I wouldn’t get inadvertently crushed.

“Vaunn, I gave you a little upgrade. Test it out,” Oberon said, backing up a few paces.

I felt Vaunn nod, then shudder as something happened. Suddenly, the metal around me seemed to shrink as it matched my size. I was relatively short for my age—poor nutrition—and Vaunn had to do quite a bit of shrinking to match me. Finally, all the parts popped into place on my hundred-sixty-nine-centimeter body.

“Wow! Did you cast a spell?” I asked as I moved my hands. Everything fit with such finesse that I would have sworn it was made just for me. I didn’t feel any hindrance to my movement whatsoever. In fact, it even felt like it would be easier to cast magic while wearing it.

“Nope. This is all Vaunn. I checked and she had over a thousand years of status points saved up. Or however long this new system has been in place. There was enough for a few changes to her, mainly the Equip skill that lets her equip a person as long as both are willing,” Oberon explained.

“That’s still awesome. I totally look like a battlemage!” I said—alright, maybe squealed a bit.

“Haha. You’re looking at the original battlemage, young lady,” Oberon said with what sounded like a hint of smugness. I wanted to stick my tongue out at him but would have ended up licking the inside of the helmet.

“Are you going to do the same to Grodo?” I asked, looking at the armor that he wore.

“No. He fits fine and I want to save his points for an emergency,” he said with a shake of his head.

With the issue with the armor taken care of, we only had a few more things to do before setting off. First on the list was changing all the other prisoners into servants. While it was a simple matter of me basically draining them dry, now that I was pretty satiated, I couldn’t gulp down several people’s worth of blood all in one go.
