Experiment: Part 1 – Imagine if we could send a 16 year old from the present day back to 1817. If the doctors and nurses allowed them to, our teenager could have a bigger impact on the health of humanity than the best-educated doctors of the day. Why? Because of our teenager's embodied understanding of the pre-existing fact of germs. At first, it would seem to the medics as though our teenager's suggested actions (scrub up, sterilize your instruments, wear surgical masks, clean that filthy operating theatre, use sterile dressings etc) were random and without reason. Yet those actions would result in a massive reduction in infection and a corresponding increase in health. While the doctors had already been doing their best to get good results at their existing level of understanding, an increase in their embodied understanding of the fact of germs would eliminate misinformation and massively increase the quality of their results.
Part 2 – Let's assume that 200 years from now, psychology will have assumed the status of ‘hard science’; that the principles behind it will be as widely and well understood as germ theory is today. Now imagine what would happen if a 16 year old from the 2200s was sent back to the present day. Our future-teen could have a bigger impact on the psychological health of humanity than the best-educated psychologists of the present day. Why? Because of our teenager's embodied understanding of the pre-existing fact of the principles behind our psychology. At first, it would seem to us as though our teenager's suggestions (get a better understanding of these principles) were random and without reason. Yet this would result in a massive reduction in stress and a massive increase in clarity, insight, performance and results. While we'd have already been doing our best to get good results at our existing level of understanding, an increase in our embodied understanding of the fact of psychological principles would eliminate misinformation and massively increase the quality of our results.
Fortunately, we don't have to wait for a time-traveling teen. The principles behind psychology have been discovered, and as you continue realizing them for yourself, the results will be inevitable.
