The One That Got Away

A few years ago, Darrell Schweitzer, who was editing the venerable Weird Tales, decided to do a one-shot parody issue titled Weird Trails: The Magazine of Supernatural Cowboy Fiction. To give you a hint of what kind of stories it contained, it included Riders of the Purple Ooze by Bill Wallace and Joe Pumilia's H.P. Lovecraft parody character, M.M. Moamrath. When I was invited, I decided to do my take on a cowboy version of a werewolf tale—and not content with that, I also told a story of unrequited (and uneaten) love.
