By the time Enzo comes out of the kitchen, I feel completely at ease with his family. I love the way they joke and tease one another. I can’t believe the way he kissed me in front of them. I’m not one for much PDA, but when a man like Enzo kisses me like that, who gives a fuck about my surroundings?

Sara, Anna, and Erin are all people I could become friends with easily. Their children are adorable. Of course, we have a lot in common: kids, books, and Enzo. Though that last one is the one subject I do my best to avoid talking about. I don’t want to give them any reason to think less of me since I’ve known Enzo for such a short time. Thankfully, no one does or says anything to make me feel as if I don’t belong here.

I can feel Enzo enter the room before I see him. My back is to the entrance, but the prickling up my spine is the sensation I experience whenever he’s near. He comes to sit next to me on the couch, instinctively grabbing my hand to hold once he arrives. He kept his hand on my leg all throughout dinner. Like now, my nerve endings are spasming out of control. It’s as if each nerve is a live wire, waiting to explode. It’s taking all my energy not to climb him like a tree and have my way with him.

Eventually, we say our goodbyes. I promise Erin we will get together for lunch soon. She texts me her number so I can call and schedule something once I have my calendar in front of me. Enzo’s parents each give me a hug and we make our way out the door, heading back to my place for the evening.
