9.3 Methodology

A structured methodology was used to forecast the adoption of RFID in hospitals. The forecasting tools used in this chapter are Patent analysis, Gompertz curve, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Bass Diffusion model (Fig. 9.1).

The study began with an extensive literature research to select the suitable forecasting tools to be used in this project. Then, patent analysis was done to get the number of patents filed in RFID healthcare by year. This patent data was adjusted using Gompertz curve as a way to fit the technological growth process. In the next step, AHP was done to get the weights of the alternatives to compare with similar technologies into the Bass diffusion model. This was done to find the market penetration of RFID.
