Once again Chrissie called the cabin crew together in the forward galley, and told them that the passengers were to leave the plane and Paula Smith was to go with them to make everything look normal. Buses had been called for and should be arriving shortly.

Paula couldn’t believe her luck. The possibility of being hijacked had never been foremost in her mind, although preparing for such an eventuality was a routine part of their training.

She had been as stunned as anyone when informed of the present situation, but she had been prepared to remain on board with the rest of the crew. Now she had the opportunity to leave, and all she could think was how pleased her partner would be! She knew she would be in the front line of criticism from the passengers, but even that was preferable to remaining on board.

Chrissie handed her a piece of paper with the seat numbers and descriptions of David and Liam. She was unaware that Amy and Jack were involved. She told Paula to keep it hidden from the passengers, and to give it to the authorities. It would be helpful in finding out who the hijackers were.

Malcolm jumped up out of his seat and pushed his way through to the forward toilet, the one nearest the exit door, and locked himself in. He knew David was still in the cockpit, and didn’t want Jack to force him to stay on board. If he waited in the toilet, Jack wouldn’t be able to get to him down the crowded aisles, and his way would be clear to leave.

Most of the passengers were grumbling about the inconvenience, and worrying about missing their connecting flights from Manchester. The cabin crew was kept busy answering their questions, and assuring them that Wright Flights International would compensate them for any inconvenience.

The parents traveling with children were advised to take as much as they could conveniently carry. Once again it was the FTF’s who made the most noise. They had watched the steps being put in place, and wanted to know why they weren’t being taken to the Terminal. The steward tried to placate them, but nothing he could say was acceptable. They were scared of what might happen to them, and insisted they never wanted to fly again. If
