Clearly, this case illustrates a process of rupture of kin ties, caused by repeated family divorces over the generations. Not only are patrimonial interests contested each time a death occurs in the family but when considering the apical ancestor, one can point to the differences in the degrees of closeness and integration into the family lines. Laurent's affiliation is primary to his maternal grandfather, having lost the connections on his father's side, whereas it was the reverse for the little girls before their deaths. Pierre's daughters, Alix and Astrid, will consider Henri their grandfather, but they know that on his death none of his patrimonial assets can be transmitted to them.
