CHAPTER 10

“Yo! Ricewoman!” Prudence Tibbs called out as she led a horse into the stable.

Erin laughed outrageously at the other woman. “What did you call me?”

“Ricewoman.”

“Why?” Adele Shultz asked as she stepped out of Peaches’s stable after grooming her.

“Because she’s a woman and I feminized her last name.”

Everyone in the barn laughed right along with Pru, while the three older men shook their heads at the ladies.

“What did you need?” Erin asked after putting Daisy in her stall.

“Oh, sorry, there’s a guy outside asking for you.” Pru grinned as she dropped Maggie’s reins and used both hands to fan her face. “He’s hot, I mean smokin hot.”

Erin scowled at the other woman, trying to remember if she knew any smoking-hot men. “Did he give a name?”

“Nope, asked for Erin, that’s it. No last name. Just Erin.”

“Huh,” Erin said, and turned to head out to the front of the arena.

“Want us to go with you, boss?” Naomi asked as she wheeled herself up to her side.

“I’m good,” Erin said in a distracted voice, trying to see if she could figure out who was asking for her before she reached him. With her thoughts elsewhere, she didn’t see the six women and three men follow her. They stopped at the doorway to the arena, close at hand if she ran into any trouble.

Erin looked forward and saw a tall man standing next to a truck and the first thing she saw was his broad shoulders. She liked how tall and proud he stood. The second thing she noticed was his tight ass. She wondered if she could leave a mark if she bit it. Feeling her cheeks heat, she fanned herself, cleared her throat, and while still several feet away, she called out.

“Can I help you?” The guy turned and she lost her breath at his utter beauty, even though half his face was in shadow from the hat he wore. As soon as he pushed the bill further up his head, she let out a small scream and rushed him. Both of them laughed as she tried to jump into his arms, but at the last minute she remembered his missing limb and hugged him instead.

“Must know him,” Pru said to the others as they watched the exchange.

“He looks familiar,” Wendell said as they all started forward, not afraid of getting yelled at by their boss for eavesdropping.

“I thought you were supposed to be here last week,” Erin told the newcomer when she stepped back from hugging him.

“Yeah, sorry about that. It took longer than I expected. I didn’t think driving would irritate the leg.” He leaned down and knocked on the outside of his left thigh.

“Shit,” Erin heard from behind her and turned to see her people standing there. She laughed and beckoned them forward.

“Do you remember Floyd, Virgil, and Wendell?”

“I do,” Reid said, and at their scowls, he grinned at the three older men. “Reid Garret. I was here with Clark years ago.”

“Were you the one we caught trying to break into the bunkhouse?” Wendell asked.
