Chapter Thirty-One

It’d been a whirlwind couple of days, from the meltdown in his bed to the airing of old wounds to the rushing out the door without contact, and it was killing him. What a time for work to demand his presence, things were just starting to come together with his neurotic lover. He just had to hope that when this assignment was over, things won’t have backslid. They’d come too far to reverse track even a step.

“Agent Michaels, are we boring you?”

Ash jumped in surprise and turned his attention back to the tall man explaining the situation. “No, sir. Sorry, sir.”

Agent Wilcox nodded, “Good, as I was saying, you’ve been requested for a special assignment in Texas. You’re to head out immediately and will be briefed on arrival. Your contact will be Agent Burrows, he’s in charge of the Houston Bureau.”

“Yes, sir,” Ash said as he stood and followed the suits out of the office.

“Agent Michaels, here’s your ticket and there’s a car waiting downstairs to take you to the airport.”

Ash smiled his thanks at the young agent, nodded goodbye to his superiors and headed to Texas and hopefully some answers. In the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but be suspicious, what were the chances they’d be searching for the facility in Texas and now he was being called there on special assignment?
