Deep Storm: You wonât be able to avoid me now, petal. I know you have a free period tomorrow after Combat, so plan to stay longer. I canât wait.
Shit.
âSo, Pitch Perfect?â Luna asks, catching me by surprise, and I lock my phone quickly and toss it on the sofa.
âYes, sit. Iâll grab snacks,â I murmur, running to get some chips and popcorn from the kitchen. When I step back into the living room, Lunaâs already kicked her shoes off, and curled up on the sofa with the blanket off the back.
âHurry up, Red,â she calls out, not taking her gaze off the television as she sets everything up. Falling into the seat beside her, I push my shoes off too as Luna holds the blanket up for me to slip in.
Wordlessly, Luna hits play and I open the bags of goodies. âSo, do you want to tell me more about your mom?â She asks, keeping her gaze forward, and my heart stutters at her gentle approach. Shit. I was hoping to pretend all the shit around us wasnât going on, but thatâs completely out of the window now. I owe it to her, to be open about my life, just like she has been open with me.
âNot really, sheâs vile.â I sigh, wishing Iâd brought a strong drink in with me too. âShe is the ultimate stepford housewife of Featherstone. Everything must look a certain way, be done just right, and the end goal always leads me to a life that isnât meant for me.â
âAll of that kind of blows my mind. I guess thatâs because I grew up away from this world.â I finally meet her eyes, and there is nothing but support there, which makes me feel a little better. I donât need sympathy, I need to get my life in order.
âWell, I know from the adults that surround you that they would never treat you like that,â I respond, squeezing her arm as I look back at the TV âShe has an extra special way of making me feel like nothing. Always analyzing everything I do, and trying to force me into the most ridiculous mold that matches her expectations.â
âShe definitely sounds like a class A bitch,â Luna mutters, and I smile slightly at her words.
âI feel very lost, Luna. Having you as a friend has changed my life, but being here is not where I actually wanted to be. Yet, I feel relieved to be anywhere but near my mother.â Linking my arm through hers, I lean my head on her shoulder. I feel like a weight is lifted from me as I voice my form of hell.
âRed, you are anything but nothing. You are everything, and I see you grow into yourself more and more every day. I am here for you, no matter who you want to be, okay? But I want to make myself very clear, if I ever see your mom I wonât be held responsible for the actions I take.â
I squeeze her arm extra tight, as I soak in her words.
