I woke up from my nap feeling like shit. Leslie was still sleeping, so I decided to take a quick shower. After I got dressed in shorts and a tank top, I went in search of something to eat. The smell of comfort food brought me to the kitchen, where I found Cora by the stove. She turned around and looked at me. Smiling she asked, “Hey, honey, how are you feeling? I made meat loaf and corn bread. Do you want some?"

“Sure. I’m starving. But you don’t have to serve me, I can do it.”

I walked to the cupboards and picked up a plate. I served myself and started eating. I was enjoying my food when suddenly I heard a commotion coming from the great room, followed by a piercing scream from my daughter. I stood up immediately and ran to see what was going on. As soon as I entered the room, my blood ran cold. There, in the middle of the room, was Gina with my girl in her arms. Leslie was thrashing and screaming. I started walking towards them yelling at the top of my lungs.

“Take your filthy hands off my daughter, you BITCH!”

She turned around and put my girl on the floor. Leslie came running and hid behind me. I bent down to check on her when Gina started yelling back at me.

“I won’t touch your little brat anymore, but you're the one that needs to keep your hands off my man or you’ll regret it.”

I grabbed Leslie in my arms, turned around, and walked back to the kitchen. Before I entered it, I looked over my shoulder and said, “He’s all yours!”

Cora stood by the kitchen door shooting Gina a death stare.

I sat Leslie on the table and went to get a plate for her. When Cora came back inside the kitchen, without looking at her I said, “I promise you I’m not going to take your granddaughter away from you, but as soon as I can, I’m leaving this place.”

She looked like she wanted to argue with me but didn’t. She only said, “Sweetheart, I understand but before you do anything, talk to Damon.” She then turned and walked back out of the kitchen.

I didn’t say anything else. After I fed Leslie, I went looking for Damon. I was ready for this conversation that I could no longer avoid. I asked the prospect if he knew where he was at. He said Damon was taking a nap and said unless it was an emergency, he doesn’t want to be disturbed. I decided to wait and went to my room to organize it. When I was almost done somebody knocked on my door.

“Come in, it’s open.” I turned and found Kat and two more girls I didn’t know in the doorway.

“Hey, sorry to bother you but I just wanted to know if you want to go shopping with us for tonight’s party?" she said with a sincere smile on her face.

“I didn’t even know there was a party tonight.
