The blond wood floors, despite their ability to brighten up a space and hide dirt, have fallen out of favor, so we stained them dark.

We painted the interior blue walls a neutral white. Pale blue purportedly slows human metabolism and has a calming effect, which is why it often shows up in bedrooms and bathrooms; however, it damps the energy of a public space and is a poor showcase for art.

The Chinese lanterns were fun, but not in line with the style of the home. They hung far down from the ceiling, which pulled the eye down and diverted attention away from the incredible high ceilings and scale of the foyer and stairwell.

The oversized foyer was dead space, so we added value by creating an informal dining area. We chose the Slim Aaron pool photograph for its water relief and as a balance to the lagoon waters outside the backyard doors.
