âI have to check with Wally. Iâll see you by your truck in a few minutes.â Liam hurried inside and found Wally in the office with Phillip, going over the accounts. When he asked for a few hours away, Wally smiled and told him to have a good time, and Liam promised to be back in time for evening chores. He met Troy near the truck and climbed inside, anxious for some time alone with Troy, but a little nervous as well. He pulled on his seatbelt and watched Troy as he started the truck. The ride wasnât long, but Liam found he couldnât stop staring at Troy, and the smile on his face seemed to want to make itself permanent.
When Troy stopped the truck at the base of the track up to Troyâs cabin, they both got out. Troy grabbed a tackle box and some fishing poles out of the back, and what looked like an old packing box from behind the seats. âCould you carry this?â Troy asked, and he handed Liam the tackle box. âThe trail runs along the creek and itâs a little overgrown, so be careful. The fishing spot isnât very far.â
Liam took the tackle box and followed Troy into the shade of the small trees that lined the creek. Thankfully, there wasnât much brush and they could walk fairly easily. Troy led him to a clearing near the water where a large tree trunk had bridged the stream. âThis is my favorite spot,â Troy said, setting down the poles and the box heâd been carrying. âI packed a lunch,â Troy told him proudly. âThe box doesnât look like much, but it was all I had.â Troy set it down and began getting the poles ready. He scooted out onto the log, setting the box next to him on a flattened spot, and Liam did the same, handing Troy the poles. The current was swift, so there was no need to cast their lines. All they needed to do was set their hooks, and the current did the rest. Troy handed him a sandwich, and Liam unwrapped it with one hand and began eating, watching the water as it rushed beneath their perch.
Once he was done, Liam handed Troy the wrapper and Troy gave him a bottle of cold water. âThis is nice, peaceful and quiet.â Troy nodded and finished his sandwich before leaning close to him. They shared a light kiss, and Liam felt his heart jump at the tenderness. Heâd known very little of that in his life, and it seemed nice to receive it from Troy. The sun shone between the branches, sparkling where it hit the water. Troy handed Liam his pole before pulling off his shirt, shifting on the log until he was sitting on it, and Liam handed him back his pole.
Liam couldnât take his gaze off Troy. Sure, he was older, but you wouldnât really know it. His skin seemed golden as it glistened with a slight sheen of sweat whenever the breeze moved the leaves and the sun sparkled on him.
