Business vision

A strong business vision is a compelling view that focuses on the core values of a business and is shared by all staff at all levels of that organisation. It details how the business should operate and function to satisfy customers’ needs. A vision is similar to a mission statement, except the latter only focuses on the here-and-now, whereas the former focuses on the future as well as the present. It aims to ensure that the daily actions and operations of the business are directed towards achieving long-term goals. To realise your business vision, every function of your enterprise must be geared towards embracing and supporting it. For example, you could direct staff to set goals, strategies and core values for your business based on that vision. Figure 6.1 shows the areas of a typical business that are most influenced by a business vision.
