CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
-:- STAR -:-
Saturday morning, Meat has gone to the clubhouse to prepare breakfast, and help entice my parents from the UK to the USA. I donât give a shit about them anymore. They had to have known, and Rosemary being involved tells me they were complicit, as she does nothing without their permission.
I am giving free rein for Axel and the club to do what they like. But I have made my statement which implicates Gregory, Rosemary, the goons and my parents. Now Iâve washed my hands of it until such time as Forest tells me otherwise.
Forest has his FBI friends involved. Iâm not getting to know them, I donât need to, and I donât want to. Iâve answered their questions and told Forest Iâll tell him, but otherwise they leave me alone. Iâm not sure it will happen, but so far, they are okay to work with Forest as a previous colleague and friend.
Walking downstairs, I give Cleo a smile, and canât help wondering if she has a life apart from working her arse off here at the costume shop. Sheâs great at designing costumes too, so I canât see Lily letting her go easily now she has her hooks in her.
âYou going out, Star?â
I turn and give Lily a smile. âYeah, Iâm going to pick up my bike this morning. Iâm excited and Iâve Joe picking me up in the Uber so I can ride my girl back here. Itâll be nice catching up with Joe and seeing what his family has been up to.â
âJust be careful,â holding her hand up to say be quiet while she continues speaking. âI know you have had the people arrested, but I canât help worrying. Until your parents are arrested or cleared, Iâm going to be in high anxiety mode. You know Iâm a born worrier. I canât help that.â
âItâll be okay, Lily. Things always get sorted out one way or another. But I told you it doesnât matter if they are innocent or not, Iâve had enough. Iâm done. They can spend their money on trying to get Rosemary off all the charges, but theyâll need more than a little luck with that.â Turning when I hear Cleo laughing at my comment.
âShe is done for, in my opinion. Caught red-handed, she is goinâ down,â Cleo states. âItâs a sad thing when family does this to each other. Youâd not think they would, but I reckon itâs more common than weâll ever know. People are just horrible. So selfish and mean, even to their own blood. Makes no sense to me, but what do I know.â
âOkay, ladies, Iâve got to dash. Joe will be sitting outside waiting, and Iâve got to get to my appointment after picking up my girl.â I kiss Lily on the cheek, wave at Cleo, and dash outside where, sure enough, Joe is waiting. I jump in the passenger seat so we can have a good gossip while we are traveling.
Stepping into the shop, I give Krylon a wave and he walks over wiping his hands on a paint-riddled cloth.
