And the like. Then one of them, probably the sentry, shouted, go to hell, all of you; the lieutenant said he was sticking his neck out, being liable for the red son of a bitch. And then someone actually put a bullet through the peephole, and dust trickled from the wall opposite where it had hit.

After that, everything gradually calmed down.
