OOP allows us to create code that is

• Data hiding

• Reusable

• Easier to code and test separately

Data Hiding

Rather than passing data around the program, or worse of all having global data, the information is stored inside the classes. The data held in these classes can only be accessed through methods exposed by the class. These methods make up the interface, that is, how the class is accessed by the other code in your game.

Reusable

Much like functions, classes can be reused by multiple games. You can build up quite a big library of classes over your years programming. Each one of these classes can be used in subsequent projects.

Easier to Code and Test Separately

On a larger project the workload can be divided between developers. With the workload divided the programmers can write the classes and test them in isolation from the rest of the game. By writing and testing the classes separately you increase the chance of reusability because the classes do not rely on each other and can work independently.
