Chapter 6
Authority Concealed and Revealed
The same way an intelligent inhabitant of any country might study the laws that provide benefits to citizens of that country, Jesus studied the Word, and correspondingly the covenants, to understand His authority to claim His benefits. He lived and operated like a citizen of the kingdom of God, and like a citizen with a comprehensive understanding of the covenants.
Things can be concealed to the untrained eye, but the one who has a trained and exercised eye will see and experience things others donât see. Because Jesus had âseeing eyesâ and âhearing earsâ trained by the Lord, He staked claims to His rights by knowing the laws of the covenant. He exercised His authority and voiced His rights on the basis of the covenants.
In the Mosaic, Palestinian, and Davidic covenants we gain important understanding about Jesusâ views on specific rights that were His in the land given to Abraham and his descendants. By learning like Jesus learned, we can become expertly skilled at walking in the land Godâs given us with visible results based on consistently releasing the voice of authority.
The Mosaic Covenant
God made the Mosaic covenant at Mount Sinai with Israel after the 430 years they spent in Egypt and just after the exodus from Egypt.
Now therefore if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
Exodus 19:5 NKJV
The Mosaic covenant introduced the ten commandments, the priesthood and its structure, the law, and the blood sacrifices as a systematic ritual to follow. This covenant was set up to be a tutor or schoolmaster to bring Israel and ultimately the world to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior of all.
The Mosaic covenant gave laws that were to govern Israel in three areas: the moral law, the civil law and the ceremonial law. The moral law was made up of the ten commandments and served as the measure and standard of righteousness and morality. Jesus fulfilled these and qualified Himself to access the benefits promised through keeping the commandments.
The civil law was comprised of numerous, specific regulations that at heart were supposed to expand the fundamental principles of conduct contained in the moral law. These laws were practical applications on how to govern and live life in every area of daily life.
One reason these laws listed in the covenant were so important is that they contained clear guidelines that governed things like sanitation and hygiene. In modern times, we are accustomed to things addressed in the Mosaic covenant being regular services or protocols, but before these things were normal for a civilized society, God provided the information necessary to promote national health. Israel was set apart from other nations because they knew by Godâs laws how to properly handle things like garbage or waste, sickness, mold, and the dead.
While the other nations experienced shortened life spans because of immorality, unsanitary conditions, and not understanding the harm germs caused,
