The first thing I did was text Thea and Leo in our group chat to let them know I was talking with Noah. They responded right away, wanting to meet me right at The Magical Cupcake that night.

I was there waiting for them this time. Thea walked through the door first, heels clicking against the linoleum floor. When I looked, I saw she was wearing a pair of sleek, black pumps. The pencil skirt was dark blue with a crisp white blouse covering her top half.

There wasn’t a wrinkle on any of her clothes.

Do you think she irons her clothing?

She must.

Onyx cocked his head to the side Interesting. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that she’s using some type of magic to keep the wrinkles from appearing.

Thea isn’t a witch, Onyx.

I know, but it’s always a possibility.

“What is your cat saying about me now?” Thea quipped.

I laughed nervously. “He thinks you're using the art of magic to keep your clothes so free of wrinkles.”

Thea laughed. “It’s just a very good iron and ironing board.”

A very likely story.

I motioned for her to sit down.

“Did Leo say when he was going to be here?”

Thea shrugged. “He didn’t message me privately if that’s what you mean.”

It’s not like Leo to be late.

The minutes ticked by, making me nervous. I kept looking at the door and hoped he would just run in, ready to get this meeting of our little club going.

And eventually, Leo did run in but he was over an hour late and when he did, he didn’t look good.

“Leo?” I asked. “What’s wrong?”

“Noah Hale is dead.”
