Neo

One thing left to do.

The night was nearly over and this was an essential aspect of making sure all of this bullshit ended. I couldn’t handle the concept of Gray being someone else’s on a good day and today was not a good fucking day. I didn’t want to leave her in the hall but my mission was simple: walk with Silas to meet up with Rainer to make sure things went smoothly. It was maybe five minutes until midnight and the two of us walked in silence, Silas vibrating with tension.

You know, in retrospect, I was probably not the right person to go with him.

I mean I wasn’t exactly known for my emotional range. Trying to figure out what to say was a bit of a dilemma to me but I tried to imagine what I would do if my brother was dealing with something similar. I almost smirked at that, I couldn’t wait till I told Athens that I was pretending I was talking to him. He would, one hundred percent, be offended that I thought he needed to be talked through shit.

“You know,” I started, “you don’t have to do this. Gray believes that you want Rainer, if you don’t, walk away from this. No one will blame you. After all, we aren’t trying to create another unwanted marriage.”

Silas snapped his head toward me, “It’s not that. I do want this. Very much so.”

“So why do you seem upset?” I asked curiously.

“Because, there is a chance he may not want me.” Silas whispered looking beyond frustrated. Ah fuck. See? This was not my ball park.

“Want my opinion?” I asked curiously.

“Yes,” he whispered as we reached the foyer of the East Wing.

“From what I’ve seen,” I spoke honestly, “that isn’t going to be an issue.”

“Silas?” A voice echoed softly before he could respond. I stepped back slightly as Rainer appeared in the room, both of them looking at one another with wide eyed concern and honestly sort of heart-breaking expressions.

“I am going to leave you two to talk.” I noted turning on my heel but neither of them were listening to me as Rainer crossed the room and pulled Silas against him. My lips pressed up into an actual smile as I turned and walked away.

That went far easier than I expected.

The halls were quiet until I came to the cross section, where I could see the East Wing. I saw someone walking along the shadows and I shook my head, slowing my walk that way. What I came upon made my chest hurt just a bit, because Luna was hugging Kai, his mouth dipping into a sad grimace. The two of them looked fucking miserable. We hadn’t heard back about his decision from Marabella, only Marcus, so I had an idea of what this was about.

“Luna?” I asked as she jumped and Kai offered me a tired and sad look. I wasn’t positive if any of the others had a clue on what Kai was but his magic was very strong.
