8:17 P.M.

Back where she’d started.

As they walked back onto Jorje Hernandez’s compound Hope’s heart dropped.

This was all her fault. She hadn't been able to find a hiding spot before she was found. The rain made the ground slippery and she’d tripped a few times, when she’d gone down the third time she’d looked up to see three large figures looming over her.

She hadn't gone quietly, she’s spun around, scrambled back onto her feet, and started running in the opposite direction, but it hadn't done any good. The men were on her, three strong big men against her small, weak body, they had easily subdued her, bound her hands behind her back, pressed a gun to her head, and made her walk.

Gunshots had been going off continuously, but it wasn’t until she was led back to Falcon that she realized what they were doing. They were setting things up so Falcon was kept busy so Hernandez’s men could get to her, use her to get to Falcon.

She’d been the bait.

And it had worked.

Now they had Falcon, which is what they had wanted all along. She’d always been bait for the Oswald family. Whoever this other man was who was involved in the Oswald siblings’ parents’ murders wanted to get to Falcon and his brothers and sisters. Someone must have decided that she could be used to do that. That’s why Jorje had grabbed her and taken her. It wasn’t just because he liked redheads it was because he believed the Oswalds would come for her.

They had, and now because of that Falcon was their prisoner.

With Falcon in their clutches, it would be much easier to lure in the other five Oswalds.

Tears blurred her vision, and she tripped over her own feet. With her hands tied behind her back, she had nothing to break her fall and landed hard on her shoulder and the side of her head as she quickly turned it so she didn't break her nose. It wasn’t the first time she’d fallen on the hike from where they’d been caught back here, and she cried out as pain spiked through her head and her injured shin. She could feel the skin split and warm blood joined the water running down her leg. It would do no good to complain about it, these men didn't care that she was injured and weak, bordering on complete exhaustion, they were the ones responsible for her condition.

“Get up,” one of them growled and delivered a swift kick to her ribs. It felt like they shattered beneath his boot, but she was sure they weren’t more than bruised. Because she knew that Falcon would lose it and would get himself beaten to a bloody pulp if he knew how badly she was hurting, she held in her sob and awkwardly got back on her feet.

“Don’t touch her again,” Falcon ordered, his voice low and threatening.

“What you going to do about it?” the man goaded, backhanding her just to taunt Falcon.

“I will kill you.”
