Chapter Five

THE MINEFIELD OF MOTIVATION

Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.

Marie Curie (1867-1934)

Polish-born French Nobel Prize-winning chemist

Concerns

To the intellectual faults arising from blindly stumbling along the writing journey (pitfalls) must be added others of a different nature that are attributable to the state of mind, or mood, of the writer, namely: mood faults. The territory or battleground of office life, whether central or peripheral to the professional person, is a veritable mood minefield that professionals ignore at their peril. Many fall victim to fears therein and go forward reluctantly in the writing task, occasioning faults at the outset.

What fears affect the state of mind of the professional person? What faults in the written product arise and what do these mean for the writing task?
