Chapter Three

PARKER

I had to get out of there.

I didn’t have my keys or my purse, they were still inside of the locker behind the door I had just bolted from. But there was no way I was going back in there to get them. And I definitely didn’t have a phone thanks to Brayden destroying it. I didn’t care, I would figure it out once I got outside and far away from damn campus. I just wanted to get home, lock my doors tight, and hide under my covers for the rest of my life. What the hell had I just been a part of?

I started up the steps, dodging people left and right in an effort to get to the doors that led outside as fast as possible. I was going to jog across campus to my dad’s office, get the spare key to my car he kept on his keychain, and get the fuck out of town before I had to see any of the people in that room again.

You need to go to the police, Parker.

Don’t let them intimidate you.

If you go to the police they will kill you.

I shook my head, trying to shake all the thoughts out.

“Parker!”

I jumped at the sound of my name, so far past the edge of paranoid.

“Parker!” Monica, the student my father had assigned to show me around earlier on in the day, rushed toward me. “There you are!” She waved frantically. “I was wondering what happened to you.”

I glanced down at the locker room, anxiety taking over every inch of sanity I just had. “I actually was on my way out.” I started to back away. “I just remembered that I told my dad I would meet him. Thanks for everything, though, really.”

Monica frowned and pushed her large frame around me, blocking the exit. “It’s just I couldn’t help but notice that you left some of the weights you were using all over the floor.” She glanced over my shoulder toward the corner I had been spread out in earlier. “It’s a safety hazard. Anyone could trip on them at any moment.”

I closed my eyes. “I’m sorry, I really am in a hurry…”

“But it will only take you a second.” She pulled her hair tighter into her ponytail holder. “I just don’t want people to think that you’re getting special treatment already, you know? Like you don’t have to follow the rules like the rest of us just because your dad is the dean.” She lowered her voice when she said the last part as if she was trying to do me a favor instead of just being a pain in my ass.

“Fine,” I snapped, turning around and rushing toward the other side of the top floor. It would be faster to just do it than sit there and argue with her anyway. Not to mention the last thing I wanted was Brayden or his friend seeing me conversing with anyone. Who knew, they might decide to make an example out of them too.
