Colonel Willingham elected to approach the Beller residence via the Gillefoy driveway. The foot deep snow made it slow going, but also limited his chance of falling. He briefly entertained a compassionate thought for the peculiar, broken people who lived inside, and made a note to check on them later. Once at the crest he shuffled over to the Beller's front steps and climbed them for the last time in his life.

"What do you want, old man!?" were the words that greeted his knock, a much harder one this time. It was Billy again. "You're starting to bug me, and you don't want to bug me."

"I'm bugging you!?" Willingham pointed to the dimness beyond. "That noise is bugging me, and it's been bugging me for two hours now."

Billy looked back at his brother who had interrupted his make out session with a topless young woman to fasten on the senior citizen standing in his doorway.

"What exactly do you plan to do about it, Pops?" Billy said to Willingham and his brother alike.

"I've already called the police and they could be here any minute."

"Is that so, old man? So you want trouble, do you?"

"No. I don't want trouble. I want quiet. We can avoid trouble if you give me some."

"You're a pretty cocky old dude, aren't ya, comin' up on my front porch and making threats."

Willingham sighed, unaware of the mortal danger lurking in the darkened room. "Billy," he said, "Let's be reasonable. You can't possibly enjoy the music when it's that loud - and it's bothering all the neighbors."

"Then let all the neighbors come over and try to turn it down. If they do, we've got a big surprise for them. Ain't that right, Brother Bobby?"

"That's right, Billy." Bobby had joined his brother by the door. "We've got a big surprise."

Willingham's expression hardened. "Be careful, boys. Other people have surprises, too." With that he looked down at his right hand which partially revealed the revolver in his coat pocket.

The brothers got the message, but it did not elicit the desired response.

"That was real stupid, old man - coming to my house and threatening me. What do you think we should do about it, Bobby?"

"I think we should teach him a lesson."

Before Colonel Willingham could raise his gun, Billy Beller shoved him savagely in the chest. He fell flat on his rump on the snow covered porch. Then Billy stepped forward and kicked him in the same place flattening him on his back. When the Colonel rolled in a vain attempt to rise to his feet, Billy kicked him again in the backside, sending him sprawling head first down the stairs, burying his face in the snow. Still not seriously hurt, Colonel Willingham finally regained his footing and turned to them, his face covered with melting white flakes. When they saw it, the brothers laughed maniacally. From somewhere behind them a timid voice drifted, "Stop hurting that nice old man. Stop it, or we're leaving!"

At the same moment Willingham sealed his fate.
