PERFORM FORENSIC ANALYSIS OF THE WINDOWS REGISTRY

The investigator can get forensic artifacts including user accounts, recently accessed files, USB activity, last-run programs, and installed apps with the use of forensic analysis of the Windows registry. There are two ways that investigators can investigate the Windows registry:

Static Analysis: using this technique, investigators need to look through the registry files that are in the evidence file that was taken. The subdirectory c:\windows\system32\config contains these files.

Live Analysis: Investigators can extract registry files from a live system and use the integrated registry editor to evaluate it with the help of FTK imager and other tools.
