Niall
âIâve got it!â Aisling cried out.
Of course she did. He knew sheâd figure it out. She reminded him of Odiana, the way she threw her whole self at a task.
And it didnât hurt that heâd pointed her in the right direction with some of the spells heâd read in her family grimoires. He wanted to see what she could do, what her familyâs power was truly capable of. Her aura shimmered with power â more than heâd seen in a living witch in his entire life â and he wanted to see her use it.
Niall put down the spell book heâd been poring over and leaned across to where Aisling jabbed her finger at a page.
âThis says crystals need to be charged by the light of the moon, or their power will diminish over time.â Aisling read the page in excitement. âWe never did this. We never even knew you could charge a crystal as if itâs a goddamn battery. No wonder the unit is malfunctioning. But at least this means the solution might be relatively simple. I just need to move the crystals under a window, where theyâll have some exposure to the moon. Hopefully, the recharging will still work through the storm.â
âHow will you touch them without getting hurt again?â Niall looked at the red welt on the tip of her index finger, and his stomach twisted with anger. He wanted the bruises on her body to come only from him, to be marks of his possession. Thinking of the crystals hurting her made him want to throw the contraption across the room.
âI figured that out, too. I donât move the crystals individually. I cast a charm around the whole unit and move it as one.â Aisling made a face, like she couldnât believe she could do such a thing. âOnce the crystals are charged, I should be able to touch them without a problem, and weâll be back in business.â
Niall leaned over and planted a kiss on her forehead. Her warm skin sizzled under his lips. He placed a finger under her chin, tilting her face up, her lips just an inch from hisâ
I could do it.
I could kiss her and touch her and glide inside her and make her scream my name until the windows crack.
He wanted her so bad that every waking moment she crawled under his skin, and every night she haunted his dreams. Niall had lived with an empty stomach and thirst drying his throat, but heâd never known hunger like this â hunger that gnawed on his insides, that made him wish heâd been born a stone so he couldnât feel the pain of being beside her but without her.
And now heâd done it, heâd kissed her hair, felt the softness of the strands whisper against his lips. Heâd drowned himself in her fig and apple scent, and her eyes gouged holes in his skin.
Aislingâs eyes widened. âNiallâ¦â
âI know, I know. Iâm fae, youâre a witch.â But he couldnât tear his finger from her chin.
