I spent the rest of the day doing odds and ends. The day drags by at a turtle pace, my excitement to see Brian palpable. Fuck. Staying away from him might not be an option. I want him with every fiber of my being. This need I have is like a thirst I will never quench. I’m not sure what this feeling swirling around in my heart is, but it’s as if I’m blinded by our animalistic connection. I don’t know him at all, so I chalk it up to what I know it must be…

Lust.

At 6:05, I find myself sitting across from what must be the most alluring man I’ve ever seen. His eyes narrow as a small dimple presents itself in his right cheek.

"So tell me a little about yourself, Princess."

I roll my eyes at the moniker. I’ll never live it down. My contemptuous behavior that first night has earned me that nickname. That was not my finest hour. As I look at him from where I’m perched on the bench, I realize just how lucky I am that he looked past my flaws and is sitting with me tonight.

My lips part and a smile begins to form. “Hmm, what’s there to tell? I’m from Syracuse. One of three girls.”

“That must have been fun for your dad.” Small crease lines form as his mouth turns up into a smile.

“We were all impetuous in our youth, much to my father's displeasure. We enjoyed torturing him.”

“Poor man.” His nose and eyes scrunch together.

“Seriously. It’s a modern miracle we weren’t locked in the basement until we were eighteen.”

“So where are your sisters now?” I ask as she shifts in her seat.

“Sam lives in New York and works in advertising, and Tiffany is studying to become a nurse. So what about you?”

“One brother, he’s also in the city. He’s one fuck up away from landing himself in jail. I want to strangle him, but let’s not talk about him tonight. Tell me how you got hooked up with this job? It doesn’t quite fit your personality.”

“What does that mean?” I cross my arms over my chest.

“I’m just saying I don’t really see you as a… Don’t get insulted, okay, but I don’t really see you as the governor’s lackey. You’re more the take charge run the show kind of girl.”

“I’m not even sure honestly. I kind of fell into it.”

“So what is it that you want to do?”

Scrunching my nose, I wonder if I should tell him. Would he think I’m stupid? But seeing the way he lit up in the meeting when he spoke of his passion…

“I want to own my own beauty wellness center.”

“Beauty what?”

“You think it’s stupid,” I say, feeling dejected.

“No, I just don’t know what that means. It sounds complicated. And girly.” His eyebrows rise and I shake my head while stifling back a laugh.

“It just means that I would love to own a spa of sorts. I want to have everything from beauty to nutrition covered. Manicures, pedicures, facials, peels, waxing, nutritionists, permanent makeup and IV infusions.
