I AM SCROLLING THROUGH INSTAGRAM AND CRYING

or maybe it’s like the sky (or the screen)

cracked open and it started raining

polaroids of sad boys, but it’s that commodified

kinda sadness, sadness u wanna double-tap

sadness w/ a search function, sadness

that definitely didn’t invite ur sadness

to the writers’ group bc maybe ur sadness

is a little too sad, like a maybe don’t share that

kinda sadness, not cute when it cries

doesn’t have real reach, sadly sort of simple sadness

sadness that should maybe hire a PR team

sadness that should think about rebranding itself as misery

so i’m scrolling through instagram and crying

@ a photo of another queer man sitting sadly

still half-smiling by a river or a lake

or any arbitrary body of water

his nails painted neatly, the right hand

undoubtedly done by a lover

and i double tap, my fingers always either naked

or coated red to the knuckle

i think of the phrase another queer man

and the bridge i attempt to build w/ the word

another

how it cannot withstand

the weight of the word

man

and so the bridge crumbles into the water

all that’s left, a hanging

queer

and i’m still not entirely sure why i am crying

maybe bc of this man’s teeth that, at least in this photo,

look so straight and white. maybe bc, to the water,

my body is arbitrary. maybe bc i am scrolling along

convinced i am building bridges when all i have done

is given myself something to jump from
