Chapter 7

Thomas left the room as quickly as he could. Leaning against the wall outside the bedroom door, he closed his eyes. He’d felt Cooper’s lips brush against his neck and tried his best to pretend it wasn’t happening. It was heaven and hell, and Thomas hoped he would have the strength to remain strong. The man had been trying to make a move, without being obvious in front of his parents, but failed miserably when a moan of pleasure escaped from the back of his throat.

The distance he felt growing between them was excruciating. Since meeting Cooper, the two of them had a great camaraderie, even if most of it took place behind closed doors. He was tempted to go back into the room and accept whatever relationship Cooper could offer him. He didn’t want things to end. He wanted to feel the man’s soft lips and callused hands all over his body.

A hand touched his shoulder and Thomas jerked, his eyes flying open. Cooper’s father Vincent patted his arm, giving him a compassionate look before tilting his head. Thomas reluctantly nodded, following him down the hall, away from the man he loved.

When they were in the kitchen, Vincent said, “You have to stay strong.”

“I don’t know if I can.”

“Why don’t you hit the gym or better yet, go to the stadium and use their facilities. Having some distance is a good thing. Don’t worry about Cooper. We can take care of him.”

“I know you can.”

Thomas hated leaving Cooper, but Vincent was right. If he stayed in the house, he’d go crazy. Or he’d cave. Saying his good-byes to Alice and Vincent, Thomas grabbed his gym bag and he left the house, heading toward the stadium. He hadn’t been to the locker room since the scene between Cooper and Jeffrey. He’d missed all his work-outs with the team as well, but he did call the coach to fill him in on Cooper’s condition. And Thomas hadn’t said anything, but Jeffrey would be taking Cooper’s place until the man was cleared to play, which wouldn’t happen for the rest of the season. He wasn’t looking forward to the conversation.

He reached the stadium fairly quickly and pulled around back to the player’s entrance. Rolling down the window, he grinned at the security guard and the man waved him in without a word. He drove around the stadium and pulled into a parking spot. Grabbing his bag off the passenger seat, he locked the doors before walking.

After changing his clothes in the locker room, Thomas strapped his phone to his bicep and put his ear buds in. Cranking up the music, he strode toward the training center. He nodded to a few of the other guys as he stepped up onto one of the treadmills. He started at a fast pace and kept the rhythm going until sweat was dripping down his face and back. When he wanted to quit, he moved faster, pushing himself harder.

A bottle of water appeared in front of him and Thomas grabbed it, squirting the cold liquid into his mouth.
