So What?

So What? was a single-panel gag strip cartoon that appeared in the Chicago Defender as early as 1930 and was handed down to successive Defender cartoonists. Jay Jackson drew the version featured during the 1940s, and the cartoon was carried into the 1950s by Chester Commodore.

Jackson illustrated many other comics. He did editorial cartoons for the Chicago Weekly Defender. He also did the comics As Others See Us, The Adventures of Bill, Billy Ken, Bungleton Green, Exposition Follies, Girlie Gags, Home Folks, Senda, Skin Deep, Society Sue, Speed Jackson, and Tisha Mingo. In addition, he illustrated Murray Hair Pomade ads.
