Chapter Twelve

Cameron

“I would like you to remain a part of Bride For A Night.”

Her words were not the ones I wanted to hear, so I moved in closer, my lips brushing her ear. “That’s not what I meant.”

I’d always had the same rule about not mixing business with pleasure, even though there were times when I’d wanted to. But Tegan was different. I needed her to admit she wanted me so much that waiting to hear it made my dick ache. I wanted to touch her. I wanted to take off her clothes and fuck her until we were both satisfied.

I didn’t care if it made work awkward. I didn’t care if she loathed me. I just wanted her.

And I was going to have her.

“What do you want to hear?” she asked, her voice soft. She still wouldn’t look at me, which somehow made the whole thing hotter. I needed to see her face, but the fact that she hadn’t turned around told me she was maybe playing with me a little too.

Or she really does hate you.

Hate sex is the best kind.

“I told you what I want,” I said, using all of my strength not to touch her. I knew once I did, she’d crumble, and I wasn’t done teasing her yet.

She said nothing for a moment, and I waited to see what she would do next. Finally, she turned to face me, and fuck, it was like being slapped in the face. Her eyes smouldered with lust, but it was the uncertainty, the vulnerability that threw me off my game. In that instant, I didn’t want a hate fuck. I wanted to wrap her in my arms and keep her safe, and that pissed me off.

I was not going to feel anything for her.

I wasn’t.

“What made you like this?” she asked. “Why do you always have to be so confusing?”

She didn’t know the half of it.

“I thought I was being pretty clear,” I told her, keeping my eyes locked on hers.

“Your intentions are clear. Your motives aren’t.”

“Who needs a motive?” I took one tiny step closer to her, knowing this was as far as I could go without our bodies touching.

“Everyone has a motive,” she said, her voice growing stronger. Her chest was beginning to rise and fall more rapidly.

“Not me.”

“You don’t like me.”

I glanced down at her lips, then briefly to her tits, before meeting her eyes again. “You don’t like me.”

Her jaw tightened, and I knew she was fighting to stop from smacking me in the mouth for deliberately avoiding every question she fired at me. We both knew what I was doing, but the truth was, it didn’t make her want me any less. If it did, she would have walked out.

This was no longer just about a job. It wasn’t about a list. It wasn’t about anything that had happened up until then.

This was about the moment. And in the moment, she was struggling to keep her composure.

“You’re right,” she said, her feet shuffling forward a touch.
