A Spawning Ground for Performance-Driven Thinkers
Just yesterday, America’s economy was based on companies that made more and more of the same product at lower and lower prices. Today the economy is based on companies that quickly provide customized products and services to meet the tailored needs of small, neat groups of consumers.
Fortunately, such an economy is a natural spawning ground for Performance-Driven entrepreneurs.
Learn to love your network. In the past, Americans would measure success by their ability to climb the corporate ladder. But that ladder exists no more. Success is measured by the results of your creativity, your autonomy, and your ability to devise a new solution, develop a new idea, deliver a new service. Often success is achieved by teams. At the conclusion of a project, the teams disband and the people move on to other teams. The ladder is now a network—an infinite number of paths that ultimately connect with many others. Rather than trudge from one wrong path to the next on a rigid upward course, you can connect with others at lightning speed and then disconnect when your purposes have been achieved. The larger your network, the more work will come your way. The better you treat other members of the network, the better they’ll treat you. As in the past, people who are fun to work with will be at a premium. Prima donnas and mean-spirited, high-achievers need not apply in the world of the Performance-Driven Thinker.
