LEADERS AND FOLLOWERS

Women leaders who emerged during the war were engaged in humanitarian and social activities that met the needs of their followers, and hence, there was a natural harmony between leaders and followers; followers “created” leaders. Leaders promote the rights and welfare of followers by offering them healing, recognition, and participation in an egalitarian society, and hence leaders and followers share purpose and hope. Victims are empowered to become leaders in their own right through healing, training,2 organizing, and leading initiatives for reconciliation in their own communities, thus proliferating the web of influence. Some NGOs also provide loans or grants to women to establish businesses, thus empowering them to take control of their lives (Rose, 2018).
