Chapter 58

A Truth of Cultivation

Allen Ming stood like a statue while Senior Xue Qi floated around him. It reminded him of the sci-fi movies he had watched back on Earth, where an alien eyeball scanned abducted humans. It felt spooky as hell. He supposed the senior floating sphere was alien to that world.

The cold evening winds swirled around the farm, and from the corner of his eye, he spotted the sun drawing in the thick gray clouds. Soon, there would be no light. He missed electricity and the things that came with it. Like a glass of wine, a soft couch, and television.

“Senior, did you scan my dantian?” he asked after five minutes.

He threw a stone into the muddy water. He was afraid of what the senior could do because she was the most unfathomable person he had met in his two lives—more unfathomable than Senior Li Wei. Even he spoke to her as a senior, using a respectful tone.

“Tell me, what is happening inside your main dantian? What kind of manifestation have you achieved?”

“Senior, are you asking about the tree inside my dantian?”

“So you’ve manifested a tree?”

“It’s a door with a picture of a tree on it, and each time I break through, one of the leaves lights up, but today I’ve a new leaf that wasn’t there before.”

“A door. That’s new. What kind of door is it? Did you feel anything when you touch it?”

Ming rubbed the tip of his nose, pondering if he should tell her. But then, she had given him that tree, so she might even know about it already. And if she wanted to kill him, she could do it with a thought, so he saw no point in hiding it from her.

“I know little, but whenever I break through I get transported to a different world where a senior is giving a lecture on the skill of Time Delay. It’s quite hard, and I don’t understand anything.”

“Door of Time?” Her voice boomed inside his mind like someone placed the highest wattage speakers outside his house and put them on full blast. “Tell me, have you manifested a Door of Time?”

“Senior, I don’t know. I understand nothing. The emperor keeps teaching a Time Delay skill that I understand nothing about.” Ming lowered his head, hiding the expression in his eyes. It was the truth. The language the emperor used—he couldn’t understand any of it.

“Even with your comprehension, you can’t understand?”

“No.” Should he tell her about the new skill he’d learned? The Time Harvest? That skill was basic, and he knew if he learned it well enough, he might get the hang of the Time Delay as well. That was his guess, and he wasn’t sure about it, but he believed it.

“Allen Ming, you’ve struck a diamond mine hidden under a mountain, but you’ve been given nothing to dig it out.” She sighed, sounding disappointed.

“Senior, is this bad? Can you please elaborate a little more?”

She sighed again. “Do you know what the use of Spirit Root is in a cultivator’s life?”

Ming rubbed the tip of his nose.
